What is Occupational Therapy?
Getting On A Recovery Timeline
When a physical ailment needs to be addressed through gentle, noninvasive methods, such as stretching and muscle exercises, this is known as physical therapy. When physical therapy is focused on encouraging ease and comfort during daily activities the common person must complete, it is known as occupational therapy.
Three major aspects of occupational therapy are:
- Motor coordination: Virtually every motion you make requires motor coordination, or the ability to control yourself and create the intended outcome. We will want to schedule enough motor coordination sessions to ensure that you leave our short-term therapy care each day feeling like you have regained or are regaining total control of your body.
- Manual dexterity: One of the most common debilitations that bother our patients is loss of manual dexterity, or the intricate functions of your hands. Through proper therapy, we hope to allow you to use your hands as skillfully as you had in the past, such as for writing, painting, or crafting, without feeling any soreness or stiffness.
- Sensory perception: Your five primary senses – hearing, sight, smell, taste, and especially touch – may begin to falter after an injury or illness. Although sensory perception restoration may be an advanced form of occupational therapy, our caring and highly-experienced staff are more than capable of finding a routine or activities that help you.
When you come to us for a calm and relaxed recuperation we can assess what you want to do regularly after your recovery is complete, or what you should be doing regularly to avoid a relapse into prior conditions, and set up an occupational therapy routine from there. We offer services for people who are in the midst of many different types of challenges, including stroke recovery. Nothing we offer is institutionalized, and we pride ourselves in bringing individualized care to each and every person who comes through our doors.
